A Parisian Business Love Story

Posted on October 07, 2020 by Rachel Hanretty

What happens when two women return to Scotland from living a dream life in Paris with new found skills? Well, they team up of course!

Mademoiselle Macaron has teamed up with Ollie & Ivy Florists to provide the perfect opportunity to send the ultimate luxury bundle: flowers and macarons.

Weekly or monthly deliveries of decadent macarons and fresh flowers will help you channel your inner Coco Chanel and Marie Antoinette fantasies to live your best life, all at the click of a button.

Founder of Ollie & Ivy, Marie Bailey, lived in Paris for over two years and trained with internationally renowned florist, Catherine Muller. It was the stuff of movies, but the chapter unceremoniously came to an abrupt end when the small matter of a global pandemic struck and Marie and her dog, Ollie, were catapulted back to the UK, choosing to make Scotland their home.

It was during lockdown that the real work building the Ollie & Ivy brand began, launching in Summer 2020.  Despite the uncertainty and turmoil, there seemed something quite comforting in being able to bring a little luxury and colour into people’s home, during this strange time.

A socially distanced walk in a local park later, Marie and Rachel decided to team up and offer the perfect combination of flowers and macarons together and the rest they say, is history.

Quick Fire FAQs with Marie:

Where do you source your flowers?

Wherever possible, we buy locally grown flowers over imported stems and we try to arrange our bouquets in keeping with the seasons, to enable us to minimise our carbon footprint.  Clearly though, it is not always possible to source flowers locally in some seasons, so we do import, but we try to reduce wastage as much as possible.

What varieties of flowers do you use?

All our gift bouquets are designed to reflect a certain look.  However, there are times when we cannot source the exact flowers show in the online image.  In these circumstances, we ensure the overall feel and colour remains constant, by substituting particular stems with similar blooms.

 What about your packaging?

We generally wrap and package our flowers in paper or cardboard and ensure they are biodegradable.  We use a minimum amount of plastic and when we do, we make sure this is biodegradable too.  We never use flower foam that is not 100% biodegradable.

When will they be delivered?

Our lead times for online gift orders are 48 hours from the date of purchase.  For subscriptions, we prefer to deliver these to you on a Friday, so you have fresh flowers to enjoy over the weekend.  You choose which Friday you wish to begin your subscription. However, we can accommodate deliveries on other days, we ask you to kindly telephone to arrange this.

Who is your carrier?

For floral gifts, we partner with DHL.  For subscriptions we partner with Royal Mail.

Will my flowers arrive intact?

Yes, we insure your flowers are well hydrated by arranging them in floral gel.  On receipt of your flowers, please remove the packaging and pop in water.
