We are Mademoiselle Macaron but it takes more than one Mademoiselle to make everything happen! And we have found one more Mademoiselle who brings something extra special to the table.
Sophie Wolak owns The Sweet Crumbs Edinburgh and makes the most incredible cakes from traditional wedding cakes to specially designed, edible creations.
With an increase in requests for macaron towers with a cake topper, we reached out to Sophie to ask if she could collaborate with us to bring you the wedding cake of dreams.
Our macaron cake towers can have either a 6, 8 or 10 inch cake to sit on top of the tower. Between Mademoiselle Macaron and Sophie, we’ll coordinate with colours and flavours.
Here’s a little bit about Sophie…
First of all, she’s French! Sophie comes from Albi which is a little town one hour away from Toulouse. She described starting her career as an apprentice chef as “love at first sight” and in 2007 she won the title of the best apprentice in France! She was only 17 at the time!
Edinburgh beckoned with the promise of a sous chef position at a top restaurant where Sophie met her future husband in the kitchen!
Sweet Crumbs was born out of wanting to keep up the passion for baking while looking after her two children, et voilà. We asked Sophie a few questions…
What is your favourite flavour of cake?
My favourite flavours would have to be vanilla and praliné ( as I make my own paste and it’s just awesome).
Do you have a favourite colour scheme?
I am living the retro life so I think it would be pastel colours with touch of gold or silver.
What’s the best way for a couple to make their decision when it comes to flavours and colours of cake?
The wedding is their day, a couple should pick what they like best, if in doubt, a tasting session can be organised, everything is possible when it comes to sweets!
You can’t avoid being overwhelmed as wedding prep is stressful no matter if it’s a big or small wedding, but bear in mind that at the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend and your life is set to be a happy one.
What is the most difficult challenge you have been set by a customer before?
I don’t quite have “the biggest challenge” as all cakes are challenge, I always put myself 100% into each and every cake to go beyond what the customer is wishing for.
I love the happiness and love a cake can bring and I vow myself to always bring that out in my baking.
