Mademoiselle chats with Salon du Savon

Written by Carolyn Henry
For Mademoiselle Rachel her first bite of a macaron represented a moment of luxury and as such, we strive to ensure that each of our customers experiences a taste of Paris with every bite. That's why we only work with likeminded companies.

With a brand new year of macaron subscription gifts for 2024 the team had so much fun identifying gifts that we'd love to receive as well as gift. Our April box sees a very special addition straight from France... We sat down for a (virtual!) cup of tea with Victoria from Salon du Savon to chat about soaps, how a little piece of France ends up in Harrogate and why macarons are the perfect treat.

Tell us a little about yourself, what's your business, and when did you start?

We are an independent business based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire and the principle importer of French Soaps to the UK, something we have been doing since 2012. Tradition, authenticity, quality and Savonnerie expertise are at the forefront of our buying. In my spare time I love doing activities with my dogs (Agility, showing, scentwork), I have recently taken up golf (eek) and I love Yoga and Pilates.

What do you consider your moment of luxury?

For me:
Yin Yoga
Eating a Macaron!

What’s your favourite flavour of macaron?

Ok, so confession time. I don’t have a sweet tooth. As referenced above, a macaron is an occasional (and probably hormonal!) treat. We are fortunate to be based in Harrogate, home of the famous Betty’s, and I buy them there. I go for Black Cherry or Engadine.

How do you serve / enjoy your macarons?

On the go. (Mademoiselle loves this!)

What do you love about your job?

Our customers, our suppliers, our products and progressing all aspects of these; educating, chatting to and delighting our customers; working with the family owned Savonneries on product development and improving our company product knowledge (and the trips to France to see them!) and the range and quality of the products we import.

What other small businesses do you love and support?

All owned by focused, passionate, knowledgeable and talented people that love their craft and their customers.

Spice Kitchen UK in Liverpool [Instagram @Spicekitchenuk]
36 Opticians in Knightsbridge [Instagram @36opticians]
Bradleys Jewellers York [Instagram @bradleysjewellersyork]

What makes you stand out from other businesses?

We have a clear focus, really understand and love our products, the supportive and supported relationships with our suppliers, and we are fanatical about customer service and inspiring them through education to the uniqueness and formulations of French Soaps.

Victoria, we're so delighted to be incorporating the beautiful hand made soaps of France into the April Subscription Box - and we can't wait to check out some of your wonderful recommendations for other small businesses.

Merci & Bisous! Rachel x
