Mademoiselle chats with Itsy Bitsy Stitch

Written by Carolyn Henry
For Mademoiselle Rachel her first bite of a macaron represented a moment of luxury and as such, we strive to ensure that each of our customers experiences a taste of Paris with every bite. That's why we only work with likeminded companies.

We wanted to make sure our little moment of indulgence with French macarons could be made even more fun with something special. that's why we have worked to find little presents that we'd love to receive as well as gift. Our July box sees a very special addition as we include sustainable face cloth wipes - featuring macaron fabric backing! We sat down for a (virtual!) cup of coffee with Vicky from Itsy Bitsy Stitches to chat about sustainability, beautiful eco-friendly gifting and macarons, of course...!

Tell us a little about yourself, what's your business, and when did you start?

Hello! Well, I've always been keen on sustainability, on aiming towards being plastic free and living in an eco-friendly way. I try to reuse, recycle and upcycle as much as I could, and, as a self confessed fabric hoarder Itsy Bitsy Stitches was born!

Since 2017 I've been selling on Etsy, and, Instagram helped with sharing my eco-friendly tips and lifestyle hacks too. I started to share reusable wipes, soap bags and more and the rest is history. I was so excited to find a macaron fabric and then so pleased when you were keen to include these in your subscription box.

What do you consider your moment of luxury?
Living in a busy house with 2 very busy little boys (and a busy husband!) a moment of luxury is definitely a quiet 5 minutes with my book…

What’s your favourite flavour of macaron?

This is such a difficult question, but it has to be a toss between vanilla and salted caramel.

How do you serve / enjoy your macarons?

Somewhere I don’t have to share them :)

What do you love about your job?

Every day, I wake up and am able to do something I absolutely love. I get to combine my passion for sewing and love of pretty fabrics, to create eco-friendly reusables for all the family. Its amazing receiving all the positive customer reviews, knowing how much single use plastic has been saved from landfill by my creations.

What other small businesses do you love and support?

I love to shop local, and always try to support local retailers here in Cardiff! Big shout out to @littlemancoffee for keeping me caffeinated, the wonderful ladies @white_gecko for keeping me stocked with gorgeous fabric, and the lovely team at our favourite Italian restaurant @calabrisellacanton.

What makes you stand out from other businesses?

As far as possible, there is no waste here! The size of every product has been carefully considered so there is no left over fabric, ALL packaging is reused and upcycled, business cards are handmade, and I also upcycle fabrics where possible that would otherwise have ended up in landfill. Its amazing what can be made out of an old towel or table cloth, or a pair of jeans no longer fit for wear!

Thank you so much Vicky - the whole team at Mademoiselle Macaron are in love with the petite face cloths with macaron print, and we can't wait to send these out in the July boxes.

Merci & Bisous! Rachel x
