Christmas in Paris with Jessica Hogarth
December has arrived mes amis, and with it, a little Parisian nostalgia. Our Mademoiselle Rachel said this time of year always takes her back to cherished memories of Christmas in Paris walking along the Champs-Élysées, mesmerised by gleaming patisserie windows filled with delicate macarons. For me, it's fond memories of winter breaks to the city of lights with my family, wrapped in a big scarf and a hot chocolate warming my hands as we stood under La tour Eiffel.
It’s that same festive Parisian magic that Yorkshire-based artist Jessica Hogarth has brought to life in her enchanting Christmas in Paris tea towel. We fell head over heels for Jessica’s design and knew she had to be the featured female-led business in this month’s subscription box.
"I first visited Paris in primary school and have been back many times since, at different times of year. It always feels magical to go on a city break at Christmas time. I am visiting Paris this festive season and I just cannot wait! Paris as a city has been inspiring my design work since my time studying at Leeds College of Art. The ornate ironwork that adorns many of the buildings as well as landmarks such as Notre Dame and The Eiffel Tower have proved to be icons I have enjoyed drawing, but it is taking note of other little quirky elements and building them into the artwork that allows me to create unique and interesting designs. I love designing for Christmas, so adding festive elements to my everyday Paris print was really fun to do."
"On my upcoming visit, which I am going on with my fiancé, we plan to go running along the River Seine, drink lots of hot chocolate, wander Montmartre as well as getting in some shopping! Paris has a great independent retail scene and we can’t wait to have some retail therapy at a time of year when the shops are just full of gorgeous gifts. We will be staying with friends, so no doubt we will be checking out a couple of their local haunts for food and drink on an evening. One final thing I love to do at any time of year is see the Eiffel Tower glistening when it is lit up at night, and our upcoming trip will be no exception!"
Happy Holidays, mes amis!
